"Our Goal is ZERO Injuries in the Workplace"
MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to provide timely delivery of the highest quality mechanical systems, custom fabrication
and service to our customers. We attain this through a Safety-Oriented workforce, design-build
engineering and CADD/CAM capablilites.
CLIMATE ENGINEERS 2010 SAFETY PLAN
- We have begun to focus more on Custom Tool Box Talks. We have started this in the past but plan on enhancing
this idea. We now include any type of safety issue that needs to be presented to all employees in a custom Tool Box
Talk. We also use these for incidents, near misses, and injuries that may have occurred. We keep everyone apprised
of what is happening in order to diminish the chance of the same type of accident/incident/near miss happening again.
Corrective actions are taken concerning the near misses or accidents to avoid their reoccurrence. As we move forward into 2010
we will be using this feature even more. We have found this feature to be an effective safety tool.
- Enhanced effort is being made to make sure that all employees are current with all safety training requirements. We have Eagleone
Safety Solutions and SMCI assisting us with these training sessions. All men are documented as having attended the class or classes.
- Forklift Training will be done for all employees by our in-house trainers (Bill Bohlken and Duane Houser).
- Climate Engineers Safety Handbook has been added to our website. This is being updated regularly. This will provide easy
access to Customers requiring our Safety Programs and Procedures. Whenever we revise a program or procedure, the website is
updated showing the date of revision. We also list any awards that the company or individual employees have received concerning safety.
- A new safety committee has been placed as of the Safety Celebration that took place as Climate Engineers in July 2009.
This committee will be serving as least 18 months on this committee with monthly/or more meetings occurring. It is their
responsibility to review all Safety issues and make decisions on important criteria involving Safety.
- Two members of the Safety Committee attend our captive insurance Risk Management Seminars yearly. Two seminars are
offered annually. These seminars provide guest speakers in all areas of Safety as well as round table discussions with other members
of the captive. This helps to bring back new and fresh ideas to improve upon our Safety Program. One of the new suggestions we recently
implemented was putting cameras in all trucks. If there is an accident/problem, this will give us better documentation. This first Risk
Mamagement Seminar to 2010 will be held in April.
- Project Manager Meetings every other month was implemented in 2009 and will continue into 2010 and thereafter. The intention here is to
pull several employees in different departments together with the project managers and brain storm ideas to enhance the overall company.
This includes safety playing a major role in this area.
- Foremen’s meetings have been increased which enables us to have more input from those in the field and shops.
This will also help with keeping everyone updated as to any changes occurring in Safety or other areas.
- We have developed and implemented a Roof Safety Policy. This has been a result of monthly Safety Committee meetings with
the Service Department to make sure that all of our employees are in a safe environment. We wanted to be proactive with this
issue.
- We have arrived at a decision to go with one type of Safety Glasses used by everyone in the company. We chose several glasses
and then had our men try them out in the field and then narrowed it down to the glasses we decided worked the best to keep our
employee’s eyes the safest.
- We implemented a Quarterly New Hire/Rehire Safety Program that has been working out really well. Every three months any new
hire or rehire (gone longer than 6 mos) will be obligated to attend a meeting in which they view a video from SMCI going over all
of the areas our employees are or may be working. This is a time for them to ask questions. Once they are working they usually
have more questions than when they were hired. Anything else relevant to Safety is brought up at this time.
- Climate has installed “lean processes” which includes better housekeeping that will help reduce potential injuries.
